
The presentation of analytical report "Mechanisms for monitoring and reducing gender-based violence and discrimination in Ukraine" was held in business and cultural Center "Ukrainsky Dim", Kyiv 22 May 2009. The presentation was organized by UNFPA Country Office in Ukraine in collaboration with NGO Women's Information Consultative Center within the framework of the UNFPA funded project "Developing national capacity to reduce discrimination and gender-based violence".
The main purpose of this event was presenting results of the comprehensive research on mechanisms for monitoring and reducing gender-based violence and discrimination. The comprehensive research was conducted by experts of NGO Women's Information Consultative Center and the Ministry of Ukraine for family, youth and sports. The analytical report has been issued in the form of brochure which included the main part and numerous additions, such as international conventions, laws of Ukraine, regulatory documents, questionnaire for experts, evaluation forms for registration of GBV cases, statistical data regarding GBV in Ukraine (2007-2008) as well as proposed "Platform of action" for reducing GBV and discrimination in Ukraine.
The event was opened by Mr. Andriy Poshtaruk, Programme Associate of UNFPA Country Office in Ukraine, Ms. Olena Bondarenko, Member of the Parliament of Ukraine, Head of Subcommittee for international affairs and gender policy of Committee for human rights, national minorities and international relations, and Mr. Yuriy Syzenko, Deputy Minister of Ukraine for family, youth and sports. Speakers underlined the following points: the comprehensive research on mechanisms for monitoring and reducing gender-based violence and discrimination has been conducted for the first time in Ukraine; the invaluable experience of implementing institutional and legislative mechanisms has been recollected; results of the comprehensive research are useful for governmental officials, gender advisors and focal points of the Parliament of Ukraine, State administrations, Ministries, NGOs as well as other experts working in this area.
Ms. Olena Suslova, head of NGO Women's Information Consultative Center, made the presentation of analytical report on mechanisms for monitoring and reducing gender-based violence and discrimination in Ukraine. Also, she presented content of the brochure.
Finally, participants put the questions to authors of the analytical report, some of them took participation in the discussion. Total number of participants in the event was 45. It has been represented by focal points of several ministries, government officials and members of secretariats of the Parliament of Ukraine.
