A round table/presentation meeting took place, dedicated to the outputs of the joint Institute of Gerontology and UNFPA project “Supporting the Gerontological Information and Counselling Centre”

On 3 December 2009 a round table/presentation meeting took place at the Institute of Gerontology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, dedicated to the outputs of the joint Institute of Gerontology and UNFPA project “Supporting the Gerontological Information and Counselling Centre”. Representatives of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Ministry of Labour and Social Policy of Ukraine, Council of Veterans Organizations of Ukraine, Ukrainian Red Cross, public and faith-based organizations providing care and support to older persons took part in the event. The Project Manager, Professor Vira Chaukovska, presented the project activities completed and outputs achieved in 2009. The project received very positive feedback from the round table participants, and was acknowledged as successful. During the public discussion, proposals for further development of the project were presented and considered.

The Gerontological Information and Counselling Centre (GICC) is established by and on the premises of the Institute of Gerontology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine with financial and technical support from UNFPA. The centre’s mission is providing information and counselling to older people and all concerned parties regarding the medical, social, psychological, legal, personal, cultural and other services provided to older persons by governmental and non-governmental establishments, coordination and networking of services for older persons, as well as training on various aspects of working with the elderly.
