
On 8 December 2009, results of the research on family transition in Ukraine implemented by the Ukrainian Centre for Social Reforms and supported by the United Nations Population Fund under project UKR1P31A, were presented at the Institute of Demography and Social Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. This is the first comprehensive research on family as a social institution conducted in Ukraine in the last 40 years.
The research studied the demographic, economic and social features of Ukrainian families, matrimonial traditions and trends, situation with and role of family values, functions of a family, as well as elements of family policy in Ukraine compared to European states. An analytical report based on the research outputs was published in Ukrainian and English.
The presentation was followed by a round table discussion with participation of representatives of the executive authorities, academic and public organizations on the research results and recommendations to improve the state policy for family protection. UNFPA Programme Officer, Dr. Oleg Voronenko highly appreciated the scope and quality of the research, and outlined the importance of the obtained results for the evidence based national programming in family support and development.
