Exchanging experiences in STI/HIV infection prevention in the Uniformed Services between Brazil and Ukraine (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 7-14 October 2007)

A knowledge-sharing study tour to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was organized by the UNFPA Country Office in Brazil upon request from the UNFPA Country Office in Ukraine and its national partners involved into STI/HIV infection prevention activities in the uniformed services of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian delegation included representatives of the UNFPA Ukraine's implementing partners:
- Gen. Brig. Igor Ginda, Deputy Head, Directorate of Personnel, General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
- Col. Mil. Valeriy Varetskiy, Head, Centre of Practical Psychology of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine
- Col. Mil. Tatyana Semikop, Head, Criminal Police for Minors, Odessa Regional Directorate of Internal Affairs
- Lt. Col. Vladimir Porvatov, Deputy Commander, Separate Artillery Brigade of the Land Forces of Ukraine
The mission also included UNFPA Ukraine staff whose work is directly related to joint activities with the uniformed services:
- Dr. Borys Vornyk, Assistant Representative,
- Dr. Oleg Voronenko, Programme Officer,
- Dr. Kostyantyn Talalayev, Admin/Finance Associate,
- Mr. Andrey Poshtaruk, Programme Associate
The Ukrainian mission was exposed to the training workshop on STI/HIV infection prevention for representatives of the three branches of the Brazilian military forces (army, navy and air force), and visited the Promundo Institute, one of the UNFPA's partner NGOs.
Also, numerous informal discussions were also held with the Brazilian stakeholders in response to HIV/AIDS regarding the modalities of programme design and implementation.
