Tina Karol participated in IV Conference of the All-Ukrainian Student Council
IV Conference of the All-Ukrainian Student Council under the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine took place on June 15, 2007 in Kiev Polytechnic University that gathered around 400 participants. In this way young Ukrainian elite analyzed and planed achievements and discussed current problems of students and youth in Ukraine.Mr. Stanislav Nikolayenko, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Dr. Borys Vornyk, UNFPA Assistant Representative, and well-known Ukrainian singer Tina Karol participated in the official opening of the Conference.
On 7 June 2007 the All-Ukrainian Conference "Healthy Nation - A Pledge of the Future of Ukraine" took place under the UNFPA Country Programme Gender component UKR1G101, which collected together the majority of multi-sectoral stakeholders from all regions of Ukraine. 221 participants, who represented the Government of Ukraine, leading NGOs, research institutes and widely recognized professionals, have spent 1 full day, discussing the demographic and health problems of the Ukrainian nation, especially focusing on the health of Ukrainian men, which still is the number one factor of the demographic crisis and health decline in Ukraine.
On June 6, 2007, UNFPA Assistant Representative in Ukraine Dr. Borys Vornyk granted video and computer equipment to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The equipment had been procured under UNDP/UNFPA Joint Programme "HIV/STI Prevention in the Uniformed Services of Ukraine" to be used for educational purposes to promote safe behaviour and healthy life style among the personnel of the Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Within the framework of the Day of Europe in Ukraine the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) have organized and conducted a small public awareness activity at Khreshatyk, aimed at providing knowledge to the citizens on HIV/AIDS and distribution of thematic educational materials.
The Steering Committee meeting was held in the UNFPA Country Office on 11 May 2007. Representatives from UN implementing agencies (UNFPA, UNICEF, UNDP), State Social Service for Children, Family and Youth, programme local coordinators from five regions and Sida representatives took part in the meeting. Participants discussed progress of programme implementation, work plans till the end of 2007, mechanisms for coordination of UN agencies' activities.
UNFPA provides funding and technical support to a scientific research of mortality in the working age population implemented by the Institute of Demography and Social Research. The research will be concluded with an analytical report containing recommendations on how to extend longevity in the working age and their practical use by policy makers, executive authorities and development agencies.
